3 weeks ago I brought my pair of shih tzus to the veteran for a distemper vaccination. George weighs in at 19 and a half pounds and Eve and sixteen and half lbs. The two of them are happiest when they are meeting their friendly veteran soon, I think it is an attention thing. George saw the vet at the beginning then Eve.
She popped back out and was okay Then it all went horribly wrong Eve started to throw up all the ingredients in her tummy. Our shih tzu was so ill she couldnt move not even an inch. We were obviously bothered at this stage and all we could do was wait and expect the best. It went from bad to worse, she lost control of her bowl,and didn't seem to be able to focus on anything.
The veteran quickly responded with a steroid injections for our shitzu. We held back with baited breath over the course of the next 10 minutes to see what outcome this steroid would have on her. The rate of her breathing was hit and miss sometimes it was fast sometimes it was slow. John then recommented us that we get her to the specialist dog hospital in our area so they could offer her 24/7 aid. That afternoon and night was doubtful.
The hospital put her on a drip that night. Nobody supposed our shih tzu dog would be with us much longer. She spent 2 days in the hospital being pumped with drugs which was a bit discouraging as you could tell she was uncomfortable.Basically she went into shock after being given her remedy by John, it wasnt his fault as he could never have known this was going to take place.The good news is that she is making great strides forward in her recuperation.
Eating a little at a time, drinking, but resting a lot. I think she will come to a full recovery step by step. I have come to find out a lot about these injections over this last week.
I have found out that the shih tsu breed are the number one to react to them.For the last few weeks I have been crusading to obtain full "full disclosure".This was a nightmare and very pricey.I really think strongly though that people should never have to see what happenned to us.
